The government of Foshan attaches great importance to Chengnan-Yayi's development as a high-end residential area as well as the core zone in the Guangzhou-Foshan integrated transport infrastructure. Thus the Guangfo Highway will be upgraded into an expressway after the completion of the radial-line project of Pearl River Bridge. As a result, the trip will be shortened to approximately 30 minutes, making it the most convenient way to travel between the city centers of Guangzhou and Chengnan-Yayi area) in Foshan.

Expropriation in Nanhai District for Guangfo Highway -- Radial Line of Pearl River Bridge will finish next month.

Lines A and B of the first phase of the radial line project of the Pearl River Bridge have been operational since 2005. The radial line connecting Guangfo Highway (phase II of the radial line at the Guangfo Expressway exit) stretches from Huangqi Bridge in the west to Fangcun Avenue, Guangzhou, at its eastern extent. An interchange bridge will be built at the intersection with the West Ring Road, providing a seamless interchange between Guangzhou’s Inner Ring Road, the West Ring Road Expressway and Guangfo Highway, which leads to Fangcun Interchange.

It is planned that an eastward extension line spanning Guangzhou’s West Ring Road will be constructed as a link between the Guangzhou-Sanshui Railway with the Pearl River Bridge--a distance of approximately two kilometers--once the connection of Guangfo Highway and Guangzhou’s West Ring Road is completed. It is expected that late June will bring the program of expropriation and demolition in Nanhai District to a close.

The eastward extension line from Kuiqi Road will cut the travel time from Zhujiang New Town to Chancheng District to half an hour.

The second phase of the eastward extension line to Kuiqi Road stretches from Kuiqi Road to the west crossroad of Nanhai Avenue, bridging Poyang Village and Qicha Village and spanning Dongping Tunnel. It begins after the intersection with Foshan’s First Ring East Line, and its terminus is near Xilong Village. Connecting with the first phase, it spans a distance of 4,532 kilometers.

The bridge, upon its completion, will ensure a free transition between Shunde-Foshan’s First Ring Road and Sanshan-Guangzhou as well as a direct connection to Chancheng, Chencun, Sanshan and Panyu. Thus the amenities of the four districts will be more accessible than in the past.

Additionally, by connecting Chancheng District with Zhujiang New Town, the eastward extension line of Kuiqi Road will shorten the trip to just half an hour.
